Visiting Pietranico is like retracing a journey into the past: the place that now appears silent and still is the most authentic testimony of a rich and populous past time. The center has a characteristic historic center, which preserves the medieval atmosphere intact. The old town still retains its original structure of a village almost intact today to offer less side to offense and greater possibilities for defense. The houses, arranged in a radial pattern along the steep and short slope below the mighty boulder, are divided by very narrow streets (rughelle) and form, with the mighty walls on the outside, a belt interrupted only by the Porta della Terra. The Parish Church, dedicated to S. Michele and Santa Giusta, is worth a visit; the remarkable church of San Rocco where some objects of remarkable workmanship are kept and absolutely not to be missed is the Oratory of Santa Maria della Croce, where you can admire some precious silver objects.
The story of Pietranico is therefore also a story of intense and genuine flavors. The cuisine it offers is essentially of a peasant type, with very simple and genuine products linked to the earth. Among the specialties we point out the pecorino and the kebabs, without forgetting the other precious dishes such as: kebabs, sagne and beans, pork rinds and beans, ravioli, gnocchi, just to name a few.
