It dates back to medieval times when it was a centre for the textile trade. The main square is surrounded by pale limestone buildings and a perfect spot for a coffee under the shady plane trees. It has a long arts tradition and is a foodie destination.

Tourists will enjoy a day trip to Nimes, the National Stud farm, Avignon, the Haribo sweet museum (like Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory), the medieval herb garden and the Roman aqueduct (Pont du Gard).

There are airports at Nimes, Avignon and Montpelier and a little further Marseille. Avignon also has a TGV station.
