Fiñana is a Spanish town and municipality in the province of Almería in the autonomous community of Andalusia, located in the Los Filabres-Tabernas region and 71 km from the provincial capital, Almería. ... And as the town's motto says: " Fiñana : Villa Hidalga y Morisca".

Municipality belonging to the Filabres-Tabernas region and located in the natural corridor between the Sierra de Filabres and Sierra Nevada, and which communicates with the Marquesado de Zenete, already in the province of Granada. Part of its term is included in the Sierra Nevada Natural Park , one of the community's natural paradises, due to its rich landscapes, botany, fauna and anthropology.

The town is located on the sunny side of the mountain range, which although grown and more modern due to the influence of the road that connects Granada with Almería , still preserves the features of its Muslim origin, its terraces, the remains of its castle, the Mudejar Church built on a mosque and its zigzag streets, with white houses, Moorish, evocative and suggestive corners.

Story

It is believed that it already existed in Roman times and that it marked the eastern limit of Baetica. It seems that its name comes from some silk scarves made on their looms called the "Alfiñames" that were famous in the 11th century and were sold throughout Spain, especially in the kingdom of León.

Its citadel, from the 10th century, was used as a defense of the region until after the Moorish rebellion of 1568. Some glorious events carried out by its inhabitants are known, such as the resistance to the troops of Abderramán III in the year 913. In the year 1489, the Catholic Monarchs spent the night in this castle.
