Full Description

Located in the heart of the historic centre of Thessaloniki, this unique project consists of two apartments of a distinguished architectural character. The apartments are on the fourth floor of an office building in the district of Ladadika, at the heart of Thessaloniki. The floor area was previously divided and used as four separate offices, which are now unified in order to create two independent and self-contained apartments.

The larger one, at 88 sqm, includes a living/dining area with a big kitchen, an en-suite bedroom and a guest WC.

The smaller one is 37 sqm and combines the kitchen with the living area, while it has a separate en-suite bedroom and WC.

There is a third guest-WC in the complex.

The owner’s desire was to create a space of unique aesthetics, extraversion and direct visual contact with the surrounding architecture. The interior interacts directly with the complex urban setting outside through the large full-height windows running at the perimeter of the apartment. On the one side, there are is a beautiful view of the archaic facade and columns of the landmark building of the National Bank of Greece in Eleftherias Square; on the other side, of the beautifully preserved buildings of Ladadika, one of the city’s most iconic districts.

This interaction between the interior and the exterior of the apartments led to the decision of creating large open spaces in clean lines, with materials in neutral colours, all complimenting the surrounding views. The storage spaces are recessed within the walls so they can blend in the surfaces. The separating elements are perforated to allow views throughout the space, and the lighting is hidden in the ceiling to create a uniform and calm atmosphere. The materials include timber, metal, terrazzo, marble and synthetic granite, and the colour palette includes white, black and elements of green.

The mandate for the design and development of the project was given to the internationally renowned architectural firm Urban Soul Project (here). The project was completed in September 2018. In the same autumn this unique apartment project drew the attention of thousands of people at the Thessaloniki Open House. The Open House project invites the public to explore and understand the value of architecture. Every year for one weekend, private and public buildings across Thessaloniki open their doors to everyone and the city is transformed into a big museum, with its buildings and architecture being the exhibits.

Due to their unique character and location, both apartments are extremely suitable for permanent residence, allowing the main resident to have a huge space for own use and let guests/family occupy the second apartment, as well commercial exploitation.
