Capestrano is a medieval hamlet with a beautiful 1200 castle belonging to the Medici family of Florence. It has the charm of the ancient fortified village, with at the base the Tirino, cleanest river in Europe, where to do beautiful canoe excursions. In the hamlet there are grocery shops, butcher-barbecue shop where to taste great local meat accompanied by excellent Montepulciano d'Abruzzo wine produced right at the feet of the village, in the fertile valleys; bars, places where to taste local products; restaurants and agritourisme; banks and post office, pharmacy and not too far from the centre a swimming pool. For the lovers of the mountain in Gran Sasso and the Majella, both not too far offer unique sceneries to discover Abruzzo, greenest region of Italy. The position of Capestrano is great because it allows to reach both L'Aquila and Pescara (and its international airport) in about 50 minutes, Rome in a bit less than 2 hours.
