Fortuna is a typical Spanish town, not far from the capital of the Murcia with peaceful streets and a white church with a curious tower. For country lovers, to the south of Fortuna, there is a large lake, enclosed in a nature preservation area and surrounded by woods, ideal for walking or fishing. Fortuna is famous for the abundance of its hot springs. Water flows freely in Fortuna, giving rise to a number of fountains such as la Higuera, la Cueva Negra or los Baños, thermal springs that were already popular in Roman times and which have today converted Fortuna into an important spa town. The history of the town goes back to Iberian settlements, the remains of which can still be seen in outlying districts such as Caprés, Castillejo or Cortao de las Peñas. The Arab domination is still visible in the Castillo de los Moros (Moors’ Castle). The town’s cultural heritage is enriched with the Baroque-style Parish Church of La Purísima, the Convent and the Town Hall (which conserves some beautiful panneaux), all constructed in an aesthetic modernist style. Its landscape, sometimes desert, is covered with water that springs from its hot springs. Enjoy the Cortao de las Peñas, two mountains divided by the movement of the land or the Ajauque Wetland and Rambla Salada,which are protected areas of great beauty. The Ibero-Roman Sodales festivities are celebrated in the month of August, recalling the visit that the Romans made every year to the Aguas Termales de Fortuna. Next to the brand new football stadium of Murcia there is a magnificent shopping centre called Nueva Condominia, a one stop shopping complex. A mere 15 – 20 minutes from Fortuna village.
