Mouraria is one of the most traditional neighborhoods in the city center of Lisbon. Mouraria is where the Moors were allowed to live after the Christian reconquest of Lisbon in 1147, before being expelled in 1497.
This neighborhood curiously remains the most multiethnic in the city. The majority of the foreign population is from Bangladesh, China, India, Pakistan, and Mozambique.
Nonetheless, it's an authentically Lisbon neighborhood, known as the birthplace of Fado.
