The modern ensemble was built in 2010 in the middle of a beautiful olive grove on the outskirts of the South Cretan village of Kamilari and completed in early 2011. It consists of a main house, 3 stylish, rentable bungalows and a large swimming pool of 50 sq.m. The property is currently being run as a guesthouse.



Rentable bungalows

Each rentable bungalow is a detached building with a surface area of approximately 30 sq.m. This offers guests maximum privacy and tranquility. The bungalows consist of a sleeping area, a separate toilet, a bathroom with a walk-in shower and an outdoor shower. All rooms are tiled with sandblasted, non-glossy marble.



Each bungalow has its own terrace (approx. 21 sq.m) overlooking the olive grove and also has a roof terrace (approx. 24 sq.m) with - depending on the bungalow - a view of the sea, the mountain range, the village of Kamilari and the Messara plain.



All bungalows have a high-quality and luxurious interior that was specially designed for the guesthouse by the architect and co-owner. The bungalows combine a sleek architectural design with modern comfort. Each bungalow is equipped with internet and air conditioning. Hot water is provided via the solar water heater (electric heating is also possible).



Main house

The house consists of a basement, a ground floor and an upper floor.



The basement (approx. 52 sq.m) has a laundry room with three 800 liter water tanks (connected to the corresponding pressure booster system), a storage room, a bathroom with toilet and shower, and a room with fitted wardrobes.



An internal staircase leads to the ground floor (approx. 37 sq.m) where a spacious kitchen (approx. 22 sq.m) can be found. The kitchen is equipped with high-quality built-in appliances. It also has a modern wood-burning stove that heats both the ground floor and the upper floor. Next to the kitchen is an office space that serves as a reception. This space is also accessible from the outside via its own entrance. There is a guest toilet at the end of the reception. From the kitchen you can reach the partly covered terrace (approx. 17 sq.m) with pergola. Breakfast is served here.



The staircase in the kitchen leads to the upper floor (approx. 19 sq.m). From this floor you have a beautiful view of the sea, the mountains, the Messara plain and the olive groves. Next to the room is a large, south-facing terrace (approx. 17 sq.m) that is accessible via a sliding door. On the east side of the room, above the breakfast terrace, there is a second, smaller terrace (approx. 7 sq.m).



In the construction of the house and the bungalows there were high-quality building materials used in the construction, and much attention was paid to energy efficiency. The roofs as well as the walls therefore have more insulation material as required by law, so that all rooms remain cooler during the summer months and the heat retention in winter is greater. On the upper floor, the roof on the terrace also ensures that the sunlight is used optimally: in the summer months, the roof provides shade while in the winter the room is heated due to the lower sun position.



All floors of the house as well as the breakfast terrace and the two terraces on the upper floor are equipped with sandblasted, non-glossy marble. Air conditioning is available on every floor. Hot water is provided via the solar water heater (additional electric heating possible).



The olive grove and the swimming pool



In the realisation of the project, it was very important to keep the original state of the olive grove and optimally integrating the bungalows with their modern architecture into the original landscape.



Small paths lead from the bungalows through the olive grove to the large swimming pool with the accompanying sun terrace that overlooks the adjacent olive groves. The swimming pool has an area of ??approximately 50 sq.m and is tiled with dark blue tiles, so that the water reaches a pleasant temperature faster at the start of the season. There is an additional outdoor shower next to the pool. The pump installation is installed in the space below the sun terrace, which automatically filters the water and is used to clean the swimming pool.



Season

The guesthouse has an EOT license (a permit to rent, issued by the Greek National Tourism Organization) and is visited from April to October by the (active) individual tourist who seeks tranquility and is interested in the island, nature and the people.



Thanks to its central location and excellent reputation on various assessment sites, the guesthouse enjoys a high occupancy throughout the season. The guesthouse has already been awarded three times in succession by TripAdvisor with a Traveller's Choice Award and Certificate of Excellence and achieved 3rd place in the "B&B and Inns" category within Greece (of 5,430 registered accommodations). On the travel portal "urlaubsarchitektur.de", the guesthouse is the only accommodation in Greece and is one of the 10 most favourite destinations of 2014.

Kamilari

The village of Kamilari has around 400 inhabitants and is a 10-minute walk from the guesthouse. The village has a well-stocked supermarket with its own butcher shop, 7 restaurants (3 of which are also open in the winter period) and 5 cafés where you can experience the Cretan life.



Due to its central location, the village is an ideal starting point for exploring the south coast of Crete. Its beaches and famous excavations, such as Festos and Kommos, are just a few kilometers away.



In addition, the Kamilari area is ideal for hiking, for example through one of the various gorges or along Kalamaki beach.



The airport and the center of Heraklion are 67 km away from Kamilari and can be reached within an hour by car.
