Full Description

2 – 3 bedrooms – 1 bathroom (a second bathroom possible) – two terraces – rustic features – hamlet location near Periana

A rustic style village house with plenty of original character and features, in a sleepy country hamlet overlooking a picturesque square, within 10 minutes of Periana and 1Km to facilities

Set in a very pretty little hamlet in the Periana area, this rustic style village house is the ideal country hideaway for anyone wishing to have somewhere to escape from the busy, modern world of Northern Europe and city life.

Location
The hamlet is located just over 1Km from Mondron, where there are a couple of shops, a bar/restaurant and a school, so within reasonable walking distance. Periana is about an 8 minute car ride from the hamlet.

The house itself is set within a pretty village square, decked with flowers and with the constant sound of running water coming from the ancient ‘acequias’ or water channels, that transport the pristine, fresh mountain water to the villages and fields.

The house
The owners call the house Casa La Abubilla, because they used to have a hoopoe bird (‘abubilla’, typical from the Spanish Mediterranean) landing on the front windowsill each morning waiting for breadcrumbs!

Facing the square, the front double doors leads into a generous kitchen/dining room (4.5 x 3m) with old fashioned kitchen and beamed ceilings. Two archways through a 1m thick wall lead to the living room, (4 x 3m) also with beams and cane detail, with a log burner and window to the side. Note that, unlike many original style village houses, this house is not dark, as it is only attached to another on the far side. A door to the rear of this room leads to an unrenovated room with a side door leading outside. This room has always been used as a ‘bodega’ and animal quarters, still with an earth floor, keeping it very cool. It would not be complicated or expensive to renovate this room to make a downstairs bedroom.

Stairs to the right of the living room lead up to an upper level that at the moment is open plan. It consists of two bedrooms, one at the top of the stairs(4 x 3m) with window to the side, and one with windows to the front of the house (6 x 4m). There is plenty of scope in this upstairs space to add partition walls and doors. A door leads from the top of the stairs to the bathroom(4 x 2m) and to the main terrace (4 x 4m) with lovely views over the countryside. From this terrace, a step ladder leads to the upper terrace (3 x 3m). It would be easy to add steps to this terrace.

A very beautiful house, structurally solid, preserving much of its original character in the form of ceilings with beams and cane infill, original terracotta tiled floors and wooden shuttered windows.
