Full Description

This chambres d'hote business with three en-suite letting bedrooms is within around ten minutes of the historic Cathar city of Carcassonne with its astonishing fortified castle. It is very well located to profit from the high level of tourism which the area in general, and the city in particular, attracts.

Built in around 1760, the large stone-built house has an enclosed rear garden of around 340m2 with rear access and a well plus a garage. The house was originally two properties and has been tastefully renovated to create a four bedroom home with an income. Three well renovated en-suite bedrooms are on the first floor. These are used for the chambres d'hote business, while the owners have their own bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor, ensuring privacy for owners and guests. You will also find kitchen and reception areas on the ground floor while the attic has three further unused rooms. There is also a storage area on the first floor which is ripe for renovation.

The house is within the village of Villalbe, one of Carcassonne's five surrounding "hameaus'. The village has a Primary School and is only a 10 minute drive from the local Airport and 5 minutes from the commercial shopping centre.

ABOUT THE AREA

Carcassonne is a perfect example of a medieval city with its massive fortifications dominating the surrounding countryside. La Cité, which was restored over a hundred years ago by Viollet-le-Duc is double-walled and is many people's ideal of an ancient, fortified city with ramparts, turrets and castellations.. From the massive ramparts, you look down over the town beyond the walls.

Carcassonne is one of France's top tourist destinations, made yet more famous by Kate Mosse's recent novels set in the Cathar era. It draws an average of three million visitors yearly, many of whom go n to explore the wider Cathar region, so it’s no surprise that it has two UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Close to the city is the Canal du Midi which, together with the more northerly Canal Lateral, runs from close to Bordeaux, through the centre of Toulouse and on to Agde on the Mediterranean coast,. The canals have recently had their towpaths restored and they now make up one of France's great long-distance cycleways.... shaded from the hot summer sun by ancient plane trees. The canal itself is popular with canal boaters and has lots of restaurants along its length.
