La Sassa is located in the comune of Montecatini Val di Cecina. Montecatini is another medieval town overlooking the green valley and very popular are the thriving copper mine caves that made this town very prosperous in the past and the mine has now been converted into a fascinating museum for visitors.The countryside extends from the mountains to the east, through the vineyards terraced on the low hills and down to the Mediterranean scrub with pine woods and brooms to the west. The thermal baths of Bagnone, a Hellenistic structure which dates from the 3rd century BC, now re-opened to the public after undergoing archaeological digs and a transformation. Here, you will find thermal waters flowing between 40° and 70° celsius to enjoy.
