Andrea Boccelli, the famous tenor, is from the region and it is in Lajatico, that he created the Teatro del Silenzio (the Theatre of Silence) where the natural landscape creates a breathtaking setting. In the summer months some of the biggest names in opera from around the world gather for a special performance.

Nearby too, is the beautiful town of Casciana Terme which has thermal waters and spa facilities. It is a pretty town with piazzas and cafès serving the local wine. The città d’arte (cities of art) include Volterra, San Gimignano, Palaia and Florence are all within an easy distance.
