Full Description

Elegant Ligurian detached villa, in a quiet, ideal location just 7 kms from the sea, set between grape vines and an olive grove, with very easy access to the beautiful coastline at the Golfo dei Poeti.

The villa is approached through electric gates to a private, paved parking area, and entered through a large enclosed verandah, an ideal dining area. The kitchen is modern and well-equipped and open to the living area, which has a terrace off through glass double doors. Also downstairs is a bedroom and bathroom with bath.

Upstairs is a double loft bedroom with two skylights and with an en-suite shower room and a walk-in wardrobe.

On the lower floor is a large 'taverna' area, with fireplace, which could serve as a third bedroom. Also a bathroom with shower and with laundry area.

There is a 'cantina' for storage and an attic store.

The south west facing garden is particularly special. There is a sociable barbecue area, beautiful fruit trees, including apricot, orange and peach offering some welcome shade and 15 olive trees producing 100L of olive oil each year.

All services are connected. There is mains gas for central heating, solar panels and a wood-burning stove in the kitchen/ living area. The windows are double glazed.

Set in the heart of Liguria this area is a pearl of the Mediterranean, and is part of the Magra and Montemarcello National Park which has protected the character and vegetation of the area. Known as the Bay of the Poets, Shelley, Byron and D. H. Lawrence all lived there at some time. An enclave with a group of three islands at its tip, it has fishing villages with exceptional fish restaurants, as well as opportunities for sailing, canoeing, snorkelling or just relaxing on one of the beaches hidden in the craggy bays around Fiascherino or Tellaro.

Lerici and San Terenzo offer golden sandy beaches with views to the islands. The easiest way to get around the gulf is by boat which run between, Lerici, La Spezia and Portovenere or on to The Cinque Terre, five villages strung along the terraced cliffs looking out to the sea. These villages are completely unspoilt and, until recently, could only be reached by boat or by train. Anyone visiting the Cinque Terre should take a walk along the cliff paths which link one village to the next, stop in one of the bars or restaurants and try the anchovies marinated in olive oil and garlic, served with bread and delicate white wine made from the grapes that grow up the steep terraces above the villages. Lerici itself is dominated by the castle with the old village of pastel coloured tall buildings huddled on the steep hill dropping down to the sea and the marina. The back streets of Lerici are full of colourful shops and excellent restaurants.

Distances: Lerici 7 kms, La Spezia 10 kms, Cinque Terre 20 kms, Lucca 60 kms, Pisa (airport) 70 kms, Florence 130 kms.
