The house is accessed by a metal gate which leads into a courtyard laid in typical Portuguese 'calçada', with a flower bed to one side. The house is l-shaped. The main entrance door is in the middle and opens into a hallway, which to the right gives us access to the ample kitchen dining room. The kitchen is fully equipped, has a stove, a gas hob, a dishwasher and a fridge. There is abundant light in this large room, which has a vaulted wood paneled ceiling. From the kitchen part there is a single door to the courtyard, whereas from the dining room part there is a double door to the courtyard. Above the sink there is a window looking out into the garden. Opposite the double door there is another double door leading onto the shaded deck to the rear of the house and into the garden.
To the left side of the hallway, we have a hallway with the marble faced stair case to the upper floor and access to the living room with wood burner with back boiler, which also heats the domestic water and the water for the underfloor heating system on the days with less sun. From the living room we access another room which could be used as a bedroom. Next to this room is the machine room housing the elements for the solar heating of the underfloor heating and the domestic waters including the fully insulated one-thousand liter water cylinder. Also the washing machine and dryer are located in this room, which has a door to the garden.
To the other side of this bedroom we have a smaller room with door to the garden and further on we have a fully tiled bathroom toilet, bidet, vanity basin with storage cupboard underneath and bathtub.
Going back into the living room and turning right into the hallway, we have a door to a large bedroom with a double door to the courtyard and a window to the side.
The floors are all tiled with the exception of the bedroom, which is wood.
Back into the hallway and up the steps, we reach a large landing and a very large room. From the landing there is a door to a large bedroom with en-suite bathroom with toilet, pedestal sink and shower. The bedroom has a window to the side and a double door to the covered terrace looking into the courtyard and into the surrounding countryside. There is also a door to the terrace from the landing. The ceilings on the top floor are all wood paneled, in an interesting pattern. The bedroom floor is wood, the rest is tiled in light colors.
There is underfloor heating throughout both floors of the house.
In addition to the doors leading from the house into the garden, there is a metal gate from the carport to enter the garden. We have a bbq to one corner of the garden, and a hard standing which could be fitted with a pergola for shade for outdoor dining. There is also an outside shower and enough space to have a vegetable garden. There are a number of mature fruit trees in the garden, including an apple tree, a large nespereira, lemon, peach, pear, a chestnut tree, and a palm tree. To one side of the garden we have the compost box and wood storage, an annex used as a workshop and a garden shed to store gardening equipment. The garden is completely private, not overlooked and has good views into the countryside.
The nearest town, Vila Facaia, has amenities for day-to-day life, including a clinic and a health center, mini-markets, weekly market, cafés and church.
The larger town Pedrógão Grande, is only 10 km away. Here we find the council and tax offices, all kinds of shops, restaurants, banks, post office, health center, dentists, large weekly market, and outdoor swimming pool. There is also a regular Express bus to Lisbon from here, as there is also from Figueiró dos Vinhos, which is about the same driving distance from this property. The next rain station is in Pombal, a half hour drive away. Leiria and Coimbra are one hour drive away. There are a number of refreshing river beaches within easy driving from the property, not to mention the Cabril lake, popular for water sports and with a good restaurant.
The entry to the dual carry way IC8 is just a few km from the property, so there is good access to the beaches on the Altantic ocean and to the motorway both to Lisbon and Porto. These two cities are both around two and a half hours by car from the property. Both Lisbon and Porto airport are serviced by a variety of low cost airlines, which operate regular flights into and out of the United Kingdom and other European countries.
