Situated just 25 kilometers from the centre of Rome, the main body of the house dates back to the 1300s. It housed a bakery, which included a huge wood-fed oven, which was closed in the 1970’s when wood ovens became less popular. The property has been converted into a loft still retaining the charm and some features of the original space: tufo walls, niches, high arches and a very large fireplace. The wooden floors, wardrobes, doors and kitchen have all been built by a local artisan and make space cosy and light. The apartment has been tastefully restored recently and is in a quiet lane; it has a private entrance from that lane. The house is a short walk from the main square, where you can find friendly cafes, restaurants, and many other services.

The loft is one large space, with a full kitchen, bathroom, built in wardrobes, a mezzanine, a small storage room, and an external court connected to a large cellar. There is running water in the cellar, with a small clay spa. As it is an independent apartment, not part of a building of apartments, there are no additional costs for heating or condominium fee.

The railway station is a 10-minute walk up the hill on to the Via Flaminia. Buses and trains leave from the station and take you directly to Piazza del Popolo in Rome’s city centre or to the Saxa Rubra bus station. Castelnuovo di Porto also has a highway exit, on the Autostrada A1, which takes you to Rome’s Ring road in 10 minutes.
