Full Description

The Olive Press is a beautiful and unique, stone property, offering versatile boutique-style
accommodation. Sleeping up to 13, it is ideal as a family home and/or, a business for B & B /self-
catering holiday rentals. Originally the village olive press, it was built by the Turks in the early 1800s
and remains a well-known and iconic property in the local area.

This 5 bedroom, 4 bathroom property has recently undergone complete, sympathetic renovation,
including new plumbing, electrics, air-conditioners, doors, windows, bathroom suites and kitchens.
Whilst all the building?s inherent character has been retained, contemporary touches have been
added. Furnishings and decoration are tasteful and rustically stylish, providing a relaxed and
comfortable environment.

Located within a 3 minute walk from the centre of the beautiful and historic village of Kritsa, The
Olive Press is 9 km from Agios Nikolaos and just a 12 minute drive to the nearest beach.
Kritsa is known for its wonderful vistas of sea and mountains, its myriad of narrow, bougainvillea-lined
streets, fashionable boutiques and local handicrafts. The village is a popular destination for
discerning travellers who want to stay away from main-stream tourism, but close enough to easily
access it.
The village has several tavernas, cafes, mini-markets, bakeries, two museums, a butchers,
bank and post office. There is a regular bus-service to Agios Nikolaos.

The property?s accommodation comprises:

Main house: 2 double bedrooms, (one opening onto a large roof terrace with far reaching
views to the sea and mountains) each with mezzanines providing dressing/seating/storage
areas beneath; a family shower room, utility room with washing and drying machines, dining
room (with views to Mirabello Bay and the Thripti Mountains), sitting room, snug area with
open fire place and, a well-equipped kitchen, with stone-resin basin, integrated oven and
hob, retro-style fridge-freezer and space for a dishwasher.
A large ?Kamara? arch separates the snug and kitchen from the sitting area. Bedroom mezzanine floors are painted wood, the kitchen, sitting room and snug are stone floored and all other floors have encaustic tiles. It is possible to provide alternative access to the main house, ensuring independent access, by creating a doorway from the village path behind The Olive Press, to the roof terrace.

The Mill & Press Apartment. Stunning, double-height apartment with serious ?Wow!? factor,
incorporating the original mill stone and olive press. This beautiful guest accommodation is
self-contained, with its own, fully-fitted kitchen, including fridge-freezer, ceramic sink with
brass tap, washing machine and integrated oven and hob.
The old, iron olive press creates a unique and interesting backdrop to the dining area here, and separates the stairs from the
room. A large ?Kamara? arch separates the kitchen and bedroom from the sitting room. The
shower-room, with its bespoke basin, copper taps and rain shower is a luxurious space.
The mezzanine bedroom with glass balustrade, overlooks the wonderful sitting area, which
utilises the large mill stone as a glass-topped bar table ? a very cool place to enjoy drinks
with friends! The stone floor and walls create a very warm and inviting atmosphere, whilst
the double height ceiling ensures a great sense of space.

Iris Suite: A charming, 2 storey suite, with independent access from the court yard. On the
ground floor is a comfortable area to relax; the 2 fixed day-bed sofas provide additional
sleeping space, if required. Stairs to the upper floor lead to the mezzanine bedroom, where
an enormous tree trunk features as a roof beam. A hallway leads to a wardrobe alcove and
the shower-room, with bespoke basin and brass mixer taps, and glass partitioned shower
alcove with copper rain and hand shower.

The Apartment and Iris Suite could easily be unified with the main house by installing a
folding, glass enclosure across the covered section of the courtyard.

Romulea Suite: A few steps down from the courtyard lead to the smallest suite, which is
sunny and spacious. This has a fixed double bed and single daybed, which serves as a seating
area or extra bed. The shower-room has much character, with its bespoke, round basin on
copper washstand, copper taps and rain shower and, the tiles, selected for their vintage feel.
All the accommodation units are accessed off the courtyard; all have cooling/heating air-
conditioners, come with beds, mattresses, dressing tables, open wardrobes, occasional
furniture, fridges, kettles and hairdryers. Sofas and armchairs are of high quality. Two solar
panel systems, with immersion heater back-up, provide hot water throughout the year.

Outside: A double, iron gate, located next to a mountain spring-water source and close to
the parking area, leads into the courtyard. The courtyard is stone-paved and filled with
potted plants, including Oleander, Jasmine, Weeping Fig, Laurel, lime and mandarin trees,
providing leafy privacy to the seating area. A tiled roof partially covers the area between the
apartment and the main house, affording welcome protection from the elements for those
enjoying the L-shaped stone benched seating area, adorned with soft cushions. Here is an
ideal place to enjoy a shady breakfast in the heat of the summer, or a sociable place to enjoy
drinks with family and friends. A 6 person spa pool currently occupies the opposite corner of
the courtyard; it could also be located on the top terrace, under the shade of a small tiled
roof.

Above Romulea Suite, steps lead to a blue and white tiled terrace, with views to the sea and
Thripti Mountains; a great place to enjoy al fresco meals or drinks. A ?sail? canopy shades the
area, which can also be accessed from the main house dining room.
The kitchen window also looks onto this terrace, towards the mountains in the east, which glow pink as the sun sets.

Only 1 hour from Heraklion Airport, Kritsa is ideally situated to easily access many places of interest,
including the luxury tourist resort of Elounda, (17 km) the historic island of Spinalonga (21 km), the
spectacular Bay of Mirabello and its many golden beaches and rugged coves, Katharo Plateau (20
minutes drive), and the wild beaches of the southern coast (a 45 minute drive through dramatic
mountain scenery). Within walking distance is the Kritsa Gorge, the unspoilt archeological site of Lato,
the Byzantine chapel of Panagia Kera and beautiful walking country affording inspiring views in all
directions.

Agios Nikolaos is the capital of the county Lasithi and is located at the Mirabello Bay, north-east Crete, only 45 mins away from the international airport of Heraklion.

Although Agios Nikolaos has a population of less than 20,000 it has a several banks, supermarkets, shops of every kind, doctors, a modern hospital of high standard, public swimming pool and tennis courts, yacht marina, harbour, cinema, theatre, gyms, a 9-hole golf course, schools ranging from nurseries to 6-level high school and generally all the amenities you would expect to find in a modern European town.
