The property is situated in the municipality of Peccioli surrounded by hilltop villages dotted amongst the vine clad hills and olive groves of the area. There is an astronomy observatory at Libbiano that is open to the public on certain days (evenings) of the year.

Close by is the historic town of Palaia steeped in tradition and where you can still visit the old olive press, the antique wine cellars and the rooms where the olive oil was stored in large terracotta vases.

Mainly an agricultural area, Palaia has a colorful history which can be seen at the Interactive museum in the town. In the countryside around Palaia some of the best produce of Tuscany is grown with excellent wines, olive oil and white truffle. The restaurants offer traditional Tuscan cuisine and the markets offer a true feel of the Tuscan heritage. There are shops, bars, restaurants, banks and post-offices in the town.

The lovely town of Lajatico, birth place of the tenor Andrea Boccelli is set in breathtaking countryside. The natural contours of the land have been used to create the Teatro del Silenzio where the singer holds a concert in July every year together with other internationally famous singers. This open air theatre, il teatro del Silenzio, was built especially to host this just once annual event and hence its name.

The property is situated int eh heart Tuscany, a coulourful landscape between Florence, Siena and Pisa with rolling hills dotted with medieval villages, castles and lanes flanked with tall dark green cypress trees which epitomize the Tuscan scenery.

The area is scattered with historical towns and medieval villages, castles and country churches and a landscape with golden meadows of wheat dancing in the breeze, vineyards, olive groves and fields of sunflowers. Meandering through the countryside of central Tuscany you feel the vestiges of the mysterious Etruscan civilization.

To the north is Valdera, here Andrea Boccelli was born and bred and it is in the heart of Valdera in Lajatico that the famous Teatro del Silenzio (the Theatre of Silence) where natural landscape creates a breathtaking setting and in the summer months some of the biggest names in opera come for a special performance.

To the south is Val di Cecina that boasts beautiful Tuscan countryside and rich historical heritage.

The area around Volterra abounds with hilltop villages, vineyards and olive groves and the villages have a rich festival heritage with many over the summer months including concerts, medieval pageants and food and wine tasting.

Volterra is where Stephanie Meyer's popular novel, New Moon, now a film is set. To get lost in the cobbled streets and piazzas is to breathe in the authentic air of Tuscany lost in a time warp.

The food of course is delicious with game specialities inland and seafood specialities on the coast. There are restaurants in Volterra and the surrounding countryside that are very good value. Local wine is available in the supermarkets or sold over the counter at the bars and restaurants. A visit to the famous Tuscan ‘cantinas’ or wine makers offers a pleasant day out and you will come home with some of the best of the local wine.
