Full Description

Wonderful, historical 4 bed apartment with river views in the oldest part of the beautiful town of Pontremoli.

Elegant, historical apartment, comprising the whole of the second floor (300 sqm) of a grand 'palazzo' building dating from 1750's with restored frescos, painted ceilings, numerous arches and spacious accommodation.

The apartment is entered through a large 'portone' door to a wonderful communal courtyard. A grand staircase leads up to the second floor where the accommodation is all on one level, with an internal courtyard. There are two covered 'loggia' either side of the courtyard, with pillars, arches and painted ceilings. The space in the apartment is flexible, offering a number of possibilities. There are two large impressive rooms with views over the river, two bathrooms, a newly fitted kitchen and additionally another four large rooms, all beautifully painted which can be used as bedrooms, or as reception space.

There are three large 'cantina' store rooms on the ground floor, for the sole use of this property.

The apartment is located in the town of Pontremoli, with theatre, restaurants, shops and coffee bars on the doorstep. Pontremoli was built between two rivers as an expansion of the central castle. Wherever you look you will find elegant palazzos with internal courtyards overlooking the river, porticos and stylish piazzas. The cobbled lanes leading up to the castle are flanked with stone houses and interlinking arches. The twin arched roman bridges are the gateway on either side of the town. Pontremoli has a good selection of shops and restaurants, a theatre, hospital and the famous Castello which houses a museum. The central Piazza della Repubblica has traditional cafès where you can mingle with authors as the town hosts the most important Italian book prize. Don’t miss the imposing white marble Cathedral and colourful street market on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

There is motorway access and a train station with trains to Lucca, Pisa, Cinque Terre and Milan.
