Just around the bay are the Cinque Terre. Boats run from Portovenere to the Cinque Terre and to Lerici in the Gulf of the Poets. Sailing is a favourite pastime in the area and crewed or skippered yachts are available for hire.

The Cinque Terre (five towns) is a string of five fishing villages perched high on the Italian Riviera (in Liguria) which until recently were linked by mule tracks and accessible only by rail or water. An ancient system of footpaths is still the best way to visit the five villages: Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore.The Cinque Terre are noted for their beauty.
