Full Description

REDUCED in price - This stunning property is actually a former barn that was transformed into a dwelling some ten years ago. The entrance still betrays the old barn door. The front is slightly set back. You enter the dining room.

On the left side the former troughs have been changed into cupboard space. A seating area on the garden side. Next to it, also over the entire depth of the house on the street side the kitchen, with cupboards on both sides and an extra dining table, and on the garden side the seating area. In the middle a wood stove has been placed in the old fireplace. The salon has a door to the terrace.

Via the living room there is a staircase to the landing. A special detail here is the fitted and openwork wooden hatch that ensures that there is light on the ground floor and offers you the possibility to move large items. There is a bedroom with a wooden (folding) folding screen.

A floor higher is an additional attic room with dormer window. This room is still in fairly original condition, although the walls are whitened. Through the landing on the 1st floor you enter a hall where the bathroom is located. Not large, but equipped with a bath, washbasin and toilet. Next to it is a surprisingly large space that is suitable for many purposes.

The previous occupant had his living room there, now the room is used as a bedroom. Special is the high and open point, there are velux windows that ensure a beautiful light. There is a raised area that is suitable as an office. There is also a mezzanine with an extra bed. There is a wood stove made by the previous occupant, but it is not used. From the hall you enter the dining room downstairs. The house has two stairs!

Next to the entrance is a basement room for storage of garden equipment and there is a washing machine. The septic tank is in the corner.

The septic tank system does not meet current standards.

The terrace is east facing and a pleasant place. You have a view of the well-kept garden with a pond. There are a number of mature trees that provide the necessary shade. On the outside edge is a wooden garden shed. There is no open view of meadows, you are surrounded by trees, but you can look beyond the garden borders.

On the right side there is a wooden hangar against the house for the timber storage, etc.

On the left side the house is connected with a neighbouring house.

This is a charming house, a typical French hamlet, with small and narrow roads that wind through it.

You are at 10 minutes drive to a village with daily needs like a bakery, small supermarket, bar-tabac and restaurants, and about a quarter drive to the village of Bourganeuf including several large supermarkets. The Lac de Vassiviere is to be reached with half an hours drive.

The department of Creuse is simply beautiful as are the neighbouring departments of Correze and Haute-Vienne in the Limousin region. Like many departments it is named after the river that meanders though the landscape. Three other rivers pass through the area, the Taurion, Gartempe and Petite-Creuse rivers. Creuse is located to the north west edge of the Massif Central mountain range and is about 6/7 hours drive from Calais and about 3 hours from Paris.

The inhabitants are called the 'Creusois' and are warm and welcoming, the area is one of the less populated departments of France being mainly rural and making the choice of properties to buy there very attractive.

Creuse has only 260 towns and villages, the urban areas are situated around the towns of Aubusson, Bourganeuf, Gueret, Sainte-Feyre and La Souterraine, these five towns form the urban centre of Creuse. This urban area is bursting with history, places to go, lots to see and many leisure activities but the major benefits of this department are the rural life and natural landscape, it is renowned for being very green and peaceful, a real haven for nature lovers with a large part of the department being covered by woodland.

There is no major industry and the economy of this department is derived from tourism, the craft industry and agriculture.

The Limousin region and especially the Creuse department is very cheap in terms of house prices. Along with other rural areas of France the demand for countryside and village property is low amongst the 'locals' as they prefer to be in or near to the larger towns, so grabbing a rural bargain is relatively easy. The department of Haute-Vienne is in the region of Limousin and boasts a varied landscape of forests, countryside and lakes that attract many tourists each year looking for a range of activities including walking, fishing, sailing, boating and skiing.

In addition, the department has a strong historical and cultural heritage and the landscape is dotted with Roman churches, abbeys and fortified castles. Beautiful man-made beaches are easily accessible and are a good alternative for a great day out. In particular, the Lake of Vassiviere, created in 1950, is extremely popular with visitors.

It is sometimes known as the Land of a Thousand Lakes, the Limousin and its Haute-Vienne department offer beautiful and preserved landscapes. Waterfalls sparkling in the middle of rocks and trees, myriads of flowers and impressive dense forests are the kind of treasures that can be discovered in the department.

Transport links are good too, the easy and cheap access from the United Kingdom with companies as Ryanair or from French cities made that Limoges and the Haute-Vienne became an attractive destination. There is also a project of enlargement for Limoges' airport.

The department has a semi-continential climate with summer temperatures in the mid 20's, perfect for enjoying the scenery.
