Las Orquideas (the Spanish word for orchid) is situated in the unspoilt village of Los Romanes, in the rolling hills overlooking Lake Vinuela, providing stunning views over the lake and the surrounding mountains. Los Romanes is on the Ruta de los Almoravidea y Almohades, which follow the tracks of a civilisation that enlightened Europe. The routes lead to Granada along the paths that travellers followed for centuries, leaving behind history, art, traditions, landscapes and feasts of the towns and villages of Al-Andalus. The Axarquia region of Andalucia, bordered by the Mediterranean on the south and mountains to the north, is alleged to enjoy the best climate in Europe. Las Orquideas was built in 2013. Designed by recognised architects from UK and Spain, its highly original style lends a timeless quality that enables it to integrate comfortably into the surrounding environment while its eclectic interior gives a contemporary twist to traditional features. Wi Fi is freely available. The seven guest rooms have stunning views of the surrounding countryside and a balcony. Five of the rooms are of executive quality and are of over 50 . All the rooms have been individually designed by Monika Dyson, who has a portfolio of previous acknowledged work. Each delightfully comfortable bed is hand crafted to a bespoke design while the whitewashed walls and louvered shutters provide a cool, serene place to relax. The Moroccan influenced bathrooms have a powerful rain shower and every room has an indulgent, roll top bath situated either in the bathroom or in the bedroom. The boutique hotel’s breakfast room and bar has a fully retractable glass wall to provide an airy ambiance with attractive views of the lake and mountains. Los Romanes is a 45 minute drive from Malaga Airport and just 20 minutes’ drive from the beautiful coast of Torre del Mar. Road access to the village is good and the hotel has its own, private car park. The village lies at an altitude of 490 metres above sea level.
