Full Description

A delightful, rustic style, original cortijo, over 100 years old, bursting with character, in a stunning, very private location with equally stunning views.

A track of around 500m leads from the Solano area of Colmenar, around 15 minutes from the village, to this delightful old cortijo, nestled amongst original, indigenous oak trees and olives, on a sunny, South facing hillside in this delightful country area.

Access from the track is easy, with ample parking in the form of a double car port, a large lockable garage/workshop (4.25 x 3m) and a store shed (2 x 1.5m) right by the side of the track. Here also is a small stable unit of 3 x 3.5m, and from here, shallow steps lead down through gardens with flowering shrubs and bushes, to the cottage.

The cottage is accessed via a covered, glassed terrace, which makes a wonderful extra room that can be used all year round, Winter and Summer. This lovely, light area is 9 x 3.25m and the views all around of the mountains and rocky summits are breathtaking! This conservatory area has sliding double glazed windows and a glass, double glazed door at both ends, and has hot/cold air conditioning installed. At the far end, the door opens onto a lovely open, paved terrace area of 13 x 4m, ideal for alfresco dining and living. And from here one can take a number of paths leads across the land, which is accessible, incredibly natural and very beautiful. There are plenty of trees, large rocks, and around every corner one discovers yet another delightful area, with grassy, flat open space, as well as sloping, rocky areas. There is plenty of space to add an above ground pool for use in the Summer months to cool off, and also to make a more permanent, natural looking rock pool, perhaps with trickling fountain over the rocks, filtering the water. This would be an inspirational alternative to a standard swimming pool, which is almost too stark and ugly for such a beautiful environment!

From the conservatory, there are two doors into the house. The first leads into the original, farmhouse style kitchen. This lovely room is 3.25 x 3m, and still has its original chimney and high, sloping, beamed ceiling. An old fashioned style ‘Aga’ cooker would look fabulous under the chimney and keep the room warm and cosy in Winter, and this could be complemented by perhaps a small update to the units in the room.

The second door, consisting of double wooden doors with pretty stained glass insets, leads into the rest of the house. We walk firstly into the living room. Once again, this room has an original fireplace with moulded plaster alcoves and shelving around it, very traditional in this area of Andalusia, and which once would have been painted in a bright, glossy colour! At present a gas fire is in place, but the original open fireplace with woodburner is installed behind a panel – no building work required to uncover it, only to remove the panel. The living room is 5 x 3m with high, sloping ceiling with original beams in excellent condition. The original thick walls have interesting, original alcoves which make lovely areas for artistic, cottage-style lighting. The living room also has hot/cold air conditioning installed.

To the left of the living room is a door into the first bedroom, also with thick walls, beamed sloping ceiling and a window out to the conservatory. This room is 3 x 3m.

To the rear of the living room are two doors. The first leads to the second bedroom, 3 x 3m with window the rear and sloping beamed ceiling, from where another door within leads to the study, of 3 x 2.5m which was the original mule stable. The second door to the rear of the living room leads into the bathroom. The bathroom is a generous 3.5 x 2.5m and has two doors – one to the living room, and the other to the second bedroom. It would be very easy to divide this very large bathroom into two, making a smaller ensuite shower room for bedroom 2, for example, and a larger family bathroom with the remaining part, accessed from the living room.

This lovely old house is in excellent condition. The location is totally peaceful and private but not too far away are other country houses and very good neighbours. An ideal country retreat for anyone wishing to unwind in a beautiful, natural environment.
