Mil Palmeras is part of Pilar de la Horadada. It has a sandy beach and a promenade which, with a few small deviations, runs the length of the beach and takes you north to Dehesa de Campoamor or south to Torre de la Horadada. The village has a little square and a great 'restaurant alley' which is packed with international restaurants and the Lo Monte Natural Park which is a special reserve for birds.
Pilar de la Horadada is the most southerly town in the province of Alicante and is the administrative capital of the neighbouring places of Pinar de Campoverde, Torre de la Horadada, Mil Palmeras and El Mojón.  Pilar de la Horadada is ideally located close to the safe sandy beaches of the Mar Menor.
Las Villas, the beach behind Torre Horadada marina, is the longest beach followed by a smaller beach at La Mojón, which reaches the border with Murcia.
The town itself is a mixture of old and modern. At its heart is the Plaza de la Iglesia, where the church, town hall and tourist office are all situated. In the nearby Casa de Cultural there is often an interesting temporary exhibition as well as the Gratiniano Baches Museum.
There is a weekly street market every Friday morning and the Lo Romero 18 hole golf course is just a few kilometres away.
