Full Description

This well proportioned Meulière town house (c. 1860) is LOCATED WITHIN EASY COMMUTING DISTANCE OF CENTRAL PARIS and is a well cared for property with a sizeable garden. THE GARDEN HAS PLANNING PERMISSION for the creation of another house or home office, giving the property SIGNIFICANT INVESTMENT APPEAL.

"La Terrace" has been in the owner's family since 1920 and was bought by her grand-parents after the First World War. The owner's country of adoption is now England (since 1974, Brexit or no Brexit!) and her family is, sadly, now having to part from it as they have put down permanent roots abroad. Houses such as these were built for rich Parisians who wanted to relax in what used to be the countryside around Paris and which is going to be in just a couple of years called Le Grand Paris. These Meuliere houses (c.1880) most of the time embellished with iron railings, are very characteristic of the Art Nouveau style found outside Paris in this period. This house was constructed from high quality materials and demonstrates a standard of workmanship which is characteristic of that era. It could perhaps benefit from updating and a fresh coat of paint, but would be very easy to move into before taking your time to decide how, or if, to renovate it.
Surrounded by its original railings which are set into a wall built of the same stone as the house itself, the property has a well designed garden with mature trees and shrubs.

Thanks to the efforts of the town's energetic new mayor, Argenteuil is going through a Renaissance period. It is also within easy commuting distance of the centre of Paris (8 minutes by train to the Madeleine) and La Defense, the city's financial centre.

The twentieth century saw Argenteuil become industrialized, bringing with it many labourers needing work in the newly built factories and workshops in the area. This signalled the end of the wine, asparagus and white fig cultivation for which the area had previously been so well known for. However, the town is currently being transformed for the better. Its beautiful Basilica has been restored to its original splendour and Argenteuil is returning to what it once stood for; a place of relaxation for the Parisians, the artists and the writers who have underpinned French culture. Manet, Monet, Renoir and Maupassant were all habitues of this once exclusive and peaceful town.

The mayor has also had the foresight to understand that within a couple of years his city will belong to the "Grand Paris" and will as a consequence benefit from the phenomenal infrastructure the Olympic Games will bring about to this commune - giving the purchase of the house excellent investment potential as well as making it an extremely comfortable family home.
