Caravans in the Sun is pleased to announce details of our latest park in Portugal near Portimao – situated in the Western Algarve, less than an hour’s drive from Faro airport and within walking distance of the beach and nearby town – with its warren of narrow cobbled streets leading down to the harbour overlooking the estuary. There is a choice of beaches – a number of small coves tucked under the cliffs or several kilometres of finest white sand and rolling sand dunes set around an immense natural bay with views.

The park is open all year and has a swimming pool, restaurant, bar and the convenience of a shop and laundrette. The local town is just a short 10 minute walk away and has shops supermarkets, banks, bars and a choice of restaurants catering for all tastes – Indian, Chinese, Italian and of course traditional Portugese restaurants with the opportunity to taste the freshly caught local seafood. The palm tree lined riverfront is an idyllic setting, you can sit and watch the fishing boats come and go and at the end, near the lifeboat station, is a collection of restaurants tempting you with the aroma of freshly barbecued fish. Locally there are opportunities for canoeing, dolphin watching, boat trips, sailing, diving, cycling, bird-watching and walking – there is even a raised timber walkway running parallel to the beach and over acres of sand dunes – perfect for a peaceful walk and enjoying the fresh ocean air. There are opportunities for wine tasting locally and a choice of several golf courses in the area – with the nearest being just 2 km from the park.

The popular ancient maritime town of Lagos with more than 2000 years of history is just a 30 km drive from the park, but can also be reached by bus or bus and train. The town has some of the best beaches in the Algarve, a large marina, plenty of shops, bars and restaurants and the older part of the town is still circled by city walls constructed during the 16th century. Lagos Zoo is one of the favourite destinations of tourist and natives alike – it has a vast variety of fauna and flora and boasts 120 animal species and 200 species of botanical interest. Less than 40 km west of Lagos is Cape St Vincent – the south-westernmost point in Portugal – wild and rugged with cliffs rising nearly vertically to a height of 75 meters. Less than 30 km east of the park is Aqualand WaterPark with guaranteed fun for all the family.
