Full Description
2/3 bedrooms – 2 bathrooms – pretty courtyard – terrace – picturesque rural hamlet of Vilo, within a short walk of Mondron, 6 minutes from Periana by car and 10/15 minutes from Riogordo.
A spacious and unusual village house, around 140m2 on two floors offering plenty of space, some truly beautiful original features, but still room to improve the house and adapt it to suit individual needs.
Situated in the sleepy rural hamlet of Vilo, in amongst the olive groves above spectacular Lake Viñuela and surrounded by some the most lovely walking country in the area, this village house stands in a prominent position within this little rural community. Originally built as the workers cottages for the estate of a wealthy land owner who, they say, used to shoe his horses with silver horse shoes! The house is known locally as Casa del Horno, due to the village bread oven, still in existence, being incorporated into the outside wall of the house.
With easy parking right in front of the house, next to a pretty fountain spurting pure mountain water, the house is accessed from the very picturesque village square. The front door leads into a small inner porch, with glass doors, and into the dining room, which was the original kitchen in the house, with original fireplace (now installed with a woodburner) and character alcoves in the thick, stone walls, high, sloping ceiling, and a door straight ahead that leads out into the patio. This room is 3 x 3.6m. To the left of this room an arch leads through a partition wall into another room, (guest living room, or an extra bedroom, 4 x 2.5m). The partition wall could easily be knocked down to incorporate it in the dining room, making one big, comfortable reception room. Off this room, to the left, is a guest shower room (1.25 x 2.25m) installed with WC, basin and shower cubicle, and next to the shower room is a store room for coats, shoes, etc (1.5 x 1.5m). To the far end of the room is a metal staircase leading up to the guest bedroom (4 x 3m, excluding the stairwell) which has a door leading out to the little terrace (2.25m x 2m) which has views towards the mountains and also over the courtyard patio.
Back down in the dining room, to the right, a door leads into the main living room (5 x 3m excluding the stairs and under stair alcove) with a second woodburner, windows to the front (South facing) and stairs that lead up to the main bedroom. At the far end of the living room a partition wall leads though to a spacious kitchen (4 x 3m) with windows to the front of the house, due South.
To the left of the living room a door leads into a ‘conservatory’ room (6 x 2m) with glass windows and wide double glass doors out to the patio courtyard. This lovely outdoor space, fully tiled, is around 6.5 x 6m, including a storeroom/tool shed/workshop of 2 x 2.5m. This space is totally private and not overlooked.
Returning to the living room the second staircase leads up to the beautiful main bedroom, (9 x 3m including walk-in wardrobe and bathroom) with sloping ceiling and stunning original beams in perfect condition, and pretty wooden windows overlooking the village South square, plus one window to the North, from which one can see the stunning, rocky mountain range beyond. The delightful ensuite bathroom, next to a walk-in wardrobe, continues the beams theme, and has a bath with overhead shower (bathroom 2 x 2m plus 1 x 1.5m).
This unusual house was most likely originally built up to 300 years ago, when the village was first established, although it has been officially recorded since 1970. It offers huge potential for further improvement to make a stunning, spacious and comfortable house in an authentic country hamlet in the wonderful Andalusian olive producing countryside. Vilo has running water in ancient ‘acequia’ channels with water that originates from an underground lake under the rocky mountains to the North, and continues, after hundreds of years, to be a centre for agriculture and olive picking. Mondron, with its shop, school and bar/restaurant, is a pleasant 10 minute walk away and the villages of Periana and Riogordo are no more than a few minutes by car. Around 40 minutes from the coast (both Malaga and Torre del Mar).
