La Cala De Mijas is a charming beachside
village located in the Municipality of Mijas in
the province of Málaga, Andalusia. It is ideally
located right on the beachfront, midway
between the larger coastal towns of Fuengirola
to the east, and Marbella to the west, and only
a 25 minutes' drive from Malaga airport.
In its original existence La Cala de Mijas
was simply a small typical Andalusian whitewashed
fishing village, over the years it has
gradually developed into one of the most
popular areas along the coast. Retaining much
of its original Spanish character and traditions
with the attraction of a wide expanse of blue
flag beach, perfect for swimming and a variety
of water sports.
There is still a colourful collection of fishing
boats moored up on the sand, a reminder of La
Cala´s traditional past. The beachfront plaza,
dominated by its historic watch tower, is one
of the favourite meeting points with a choice
of restaurants and small cafes. During the year
the plaza hosts additional activities from music
festivals to small craft markets.
A boardwalk runs the length of the bay and
continues for a distance of 5.5km until it meets
the border to the municipality of Marbella. From
