East of the famed five villages of the Cinque Terre is the equally compelling Gulf of Poets, the Gulf of La Spezia given a literary nickname for its attraction to some of the world's most celebrated poets who came and sometimes died here. This legendary costal area was once the home of some of the world's most famous poets: Shelly, Lawrence, Byron, and Dickens. They, as did many artists, found inspiration from the colourful hamlets, the deep blue sea and colourful gardens.

Equi Terme (spa town with pool) is a 4 minute train ride, Aulla (motorway) 30 mins (24 km), beaches 1 hour, skiing 45 mins, Pisa airport 1 hour 10 mins (120 km).
