The town of Bagnone is a charming medieval town dominated by a castle, with a characterful central cobbled piazza, which is ideal for watching life go by whilst sipping a cappuccino in one of the many cafés. Cobbled lanes with interlinking archways and restaurants are hidden under the stone vaults. Shops offering local produce, the busy theatre and the backdrop of the mountains make this a particularly pretty town in the area.

The nearby town of Villafranca in Lunigiana, has shops, supermarkets, restaurants and train station. The trains offer easy access to Pisa (airport), Lucca and the beaches of the Cinque Terre.

Lunigiana is a magical place to live and visit. While it remains a comparatively undiscovered and unspoilt part of Tuscany, it is neither isolated nor remote. The rolling landscape is liberally sprinkled with castles of Medici or Malaspina vintage and for lovers of the coast the sea is only half-an-hour away. The golden sandy beaches around Lerici and the pebble coves of the Cinque Terre are ideal for swimming and sailing. The area is criss-crossed with marked footpaths for walks to the hills and mountains. The airports of Pisa, Parma and Genova are all within an hours drive.
