Full Description

Extraordinary renovated luxury Priory in the heart of Normandy, with indoor pool, gite and 6 acres of land (Manche, 50)
This beautiful character property can trace its origins back to 1189 and the histories of Thomas Becket - and has been lovingly restored with no expense spared.
The ‘wow-factor’ is prevalent throughout - with first-class fixtures and fittings giving testimony to the level of finish.
Features include a superb sauna, underfloor heating throughout, gorgeous bathroom suites and top quality kitchen appliances.
Main house:
This Medieval monks’ priory has been transformed over the past eight years. The property is fully double-glazed, re-wired and re-plumbed. Efficient insulation now means the property is cosy and economical to run.
The left of the entrance hall leads to a lounge with woodburner, and to the right are a dining room with 13th century fireplace and then the main kitchen and living space. This 61m2 open-plan area has glossy black fitted units with Neff and Samsung appliances. It opens on to a raised terrace with views of the River Sienne - a perfect spot for unwinding.
The first floor has three voluminous bedrooms, each with an ensuite bathroom. The main bedroom suite is 61m2, has fitted wardrobes and a solid timber floor. On summers’ evenings you can hear water trickling through the old mill race.
The gite has a similar quality finish. There is one bedroom with ensuite bathroom on the ground-floor - ideal for older relatives - and two further bedrooms + ensuite bathrooms upstairs. An undeveloped 2nd floor provides an opportunity to increase the level of accommodation.
The Nordic sauna has space for 8 adults and has recessed lighting. The stunning mosaic-tiled pool (4 metres x 8 metres) is of commercial quality and has remote-controlled lighting and views across the central courtyard.
The current house that stands on the site has its roots in the religious history of both England and France. Once dedicated as a small chapel to the memory Thomas Becket by two Knights who were paying penance following the martyrdom of Thomas Becket. Hugh and Simon worshiped for a said six years as they began its construction. Then thanks to its fiefdom ruler and lord, Richard de Rollos, who gifted the site officially as an Abbey in 1189, and later confirmed as an Augustine Priory in 1199 in agreement of his son Guillaume de Rollos.
The house and its chapel were revered for its beautiful tomb to its founders. In the 1400’s the tomb was, according to legend, moved to Rouen.
Local attraction include the famous WWII Normandy landing beaches, the church of Mont St Michel, and the historic town of Granville.
Equally suitable as a stunning family home or boutique gite/b&b business.
The airports of Dinard and Caen are both under an hour away. The ferry port of Cherbourg is 1 hr 30 minutes’ away, and St Malo is 1 hour. More images & floor plans available.
