Full Description

This charming small stone house is built into the oldest part of St Ambroix, up near Le Dugas. It has been beautifully renovated, to a high standard, and using good quality materials. Inside the main part of the house the stone is exposed, and the ceilings are vaulted. There is a very large sitting room, with a lovely fireplace and wood burning stove. The kitchen is open to the sitting room, and there is provision for underfloor heating, with inset lights. You could put a sofabed in here, for extra sleeping space. The bathroom is also on this floor, and is quite special. The walls are exposed and there is a large Balnéo bath for your relaxation, plus a shower, and is beautifully tiled.
Up an elegant wrought iron staircase to the bedroom area. This is full of light, and leads out onto a small breakfast terrace. Up further is the main terrace, which has a stunning view over the rooftops of the town, and beyond. This is a very quiet area, and is only two minutes on foot down to the main square in St Ambroix (but possibly 5-7 minutes back up, as it is steep!) it is fully accessible by car, and there is parking.
The medieval market town of St Ambroix has primary and secondary schools, three supermarkets, and lots of individual food shops. There is a very large lively weekly market, and the town hold many festivals and antique fairs. There is a weekly "vide greniers" every Saturday in the main square. It is just 20 minutes from the beautifully renovated Renaissance village of Barjac, which also holds markets and a very famous antique fair.
In this region swimming is popular in isolated and magical surrounding rivers, and other outdoor activities include canoeing, horse-riding, kayaking, cycling and mountain climbing. There are famous caves including the Caverne Pont d'Arc, with its cave paintings, recently opened to the public. The Ardèche Gorges are very close by, and are not to be missed. You can swim in the rivers, go to water parks, visit lovely old walled towns, have a coffee in the sunshine or go wine tasting at one of the many vineyards.
There are many fascinating cities to visit, including Nîmes, Avignon, Anduze, Alès, Uzès, Montpellier and Marseille, and the Mediterranean coast is also within reach at 120kms at Grau-du-Roi, Sainte Marie de la Mer and the Camargue. Conveniently situated for connections to airports at Nimes (60km), Avignon (70km) and Montpellier (80kms)
