St Jean de Serres is a charming medieval stone village, with basic amenities, including a restaurant/bar. There is also a primary school here. Just 10 minutes away by car is the town of Anduze, nestling on the edge of the Cevennes national park. 15 minutes in the other direction is the larger town of Alès, which has supermarkets, DIY, cinemas, theatre, lots of restaurants and cafés, and even a "beach" in the summer! Lots of festivals are held here in the summer, including the famous bull running "Feria d'Alès". Nimes airport is about 40 minutes away by car, and Montpellier airport one hour 1h15minutes. In this region swimming is popular in isolated and magical surrounding rivers, and other outdoor activities include horse-riding, kayaking, cycling and mountain climbing. There are many fascinating cities to visit, including Nîmes, Avignon, Anduze, Alès, Uzès, Montpellier and Marseille, and the Mediterranean coast is also close at Grau-du-Roi, Sainte Marie de la Mer and the Camargue.
