The department of Drome is part of the Rhone-Alpes region. It boasts a similar landscape to that of Provence as well as the higher parts being similar to the department of the Hautes Alpes. Drome is the southern most department of the Rhone Alpes region. It is not surprising to see large fields of lavender, sunflowers or vineyards often comparing itself to its neighbours.

The best area to settle for year round living is perhaps the southern Drome where inhabitants enjoy a Mediterranean style climate.Two different winds blow on the area, the Mistral from the north, and a sea wind from the south.
