Our dream was to find a piece of land within walking distance of a Cretan village.  We did not want to be too far away from the heart of a village but wanted our privacy as well.  Our location has allowed that. We wanted to be able to walk, even when we grew older, so that ruled out higher locations, but we also wanted to enjoy sea and mountain views. 
Here in Gerani, we managed to find our perfect spot.
We spent many hours with the architect planning and adjusting the plans for our home. It was designed to be an all year round home and the construction was of the highest standard.  From the ground floor verandas there is a sea view, however, we knew the views were better a little higher.  This is one of the reasons that we decided to build the house with the bedrooms on the ground floor.  The first floor has the main living areas and the views are more spectacular.  Another reason for the upside down house is that in the summer it is cooler on the ground floor, which is much better for sleeping.
The garden is extensive and we have planted many fruit trees alongside and amongst the existing trees.  We grow many of our own vegetables and keep poultry.  We have become largely self sufficient.  We have great fun caring for our animals and producing our own food.
The way of life here is fantastic and it will be hard to give it up, but we know that whoever buys our house will feel its heart and recognize that is was built with love.  Property here – 4 bedroom villa on large plot with room for a pool, sea and mountain views and a marvelous fruit/vegetable garden near Gerani.
