Mojacar is a beautiful historic Moorish hilltop village, situated in the south-east corner of Andalucia, Spain, overlooking the sparkling Mediterranean. With its labyrinth of narrow cobbled streets and ancient Moorish dwellings, a fine selection of restaurants, bodegas, cafes and shops, it has a fascinating mixture of ancient and modern, and is known as the Corner of Enchantment.
La Rosa de los Vientos Estate
A rare and unique opportunity has arisen to acquire a magnificent 120,000 sq m Estate with unparalleled 360º views of the Mediterranean, surrounding hillsides and distant views to the village of Mojácar. The grounds are planted with palm trees and an abundance of tropical plants, providing its owners with the tranquillity, and the security, so often desired.
The Estate is situated in Andalusia in the province of Almeria, south-eastern corner Spain, within a conservation zone where further building is no longer permitted. It borders the municipality of the historic and picturesque White Village of Mojácar where the sun shines 320 days a year.
The main residence, a 650 sq m Villa, rests at the centre of 2,500 sq m plateau at a height of 100 metres above sea level, with sandy coves on either side. Built on 2 levels the Villa and Estate was designed and supervised by one of the country’s leading International Architects who has capitalised the elevated position so as to afford its owners the panoramic views. Designed to capture the Hispanic-Moorish traditions of the province, it is both externally and internally, extremely attractive and beautifully proportioned.
The length of the villa faces south-east and the living room and dining room, and their outside terraces overlook miles of coastline and a vast expanse of sea. The south-side of the Villa is shaded by large palm trees during the sun filled days, and floodlit after dark.
The approach to the front of the Villa is by way of a wide stone terrace with a cactus garden reaching to the walled terrace. This garden has within it an ancient secular olive tree.
Access to the Estate is via a beach roadway leading to the Estate’s private 420 metre tarmac road through automatic electric gates, ensuring total privacy and security. The Villa is within easy reach of Mojácar beaches, the village, and all of the many amenities the area has to offer.
A short drive from the village of Mojácar is the old fishing port of Garrucha and the larger town of Vera. Almeria, the capital of the province, is under an hours’ drive away, Granada is within three hours, and Almeria airport approximately 50 minutes.
The Villa is built on two levels. The garage is underground with sufficient space to house the automatic cleaning and filtration plant for the domestic water supply, the swimming pool, and water pressure system.
The impressive approach to the property gives access to the main entrance via a 500 sq m stone terrace and cactus gardens. A few shallow steps lead to the main front doors and the 30 sq m rectangular hall beyond. The hall has a guest cloakroom and toilet. To the right of the hall a door gives access to the service wing which contains the 28 sq m fully furnished, and expensively equipped, breakfast kitchen with a walk-in larder.
This wing also contains the staff bedroom suite, a large laundry and drying room. A staircase leads down to the garage.
To the left of the hall a further door leads into the magnificent 45 sq m dining room adjacent to the 75 sq m living area. The living room has a feature Tuscany stone fireplace with a large fan-assisted wood burner, and the dining room has a specially commissioned black inlaid marble Rose Compass motif at its centre from which the Villa derives its name. Both rooms have black and white marble inlaid floors. There is an abundance of large sliding windows and French doors which open on to a wide south-east facing terrace giving the rooms a light and airy ambience.
The terraces that surround the Villa overlook the sea, affording panoramic views of the coastline, mountains and distant village.
The 120 sq m swimming pool is enclosed within a Moorish styled courtyard. The pool is surrounded by a 285 sq m covered patio of polished and unpolished white marble. The pool is in blue ceramic tiles and has an inlaid mosaic of two mythical sea horses.
The patio is part covered. The roof, which is made up of antique tiles originating from Sante Fe in the Province of Granada, is supported by 30 marble columns. In the courtyard near the pool, is a large fully tiled changing room with shower facilities.
The Villa has three guest room suites with fitted wardrobes, plus fully fitted bathrooms. All suites have direct access to the pool area, terraces and gardens.
The accommodation on the first floor comprises a 42 sq m billiard, or music room, with an outside terrace of 70 sq m allowing superb views. The room has an independent access to the ground floor terrace. The master suite comprising bedroom-sitting room of 42 sq m has sliding French doors leading out to three open terraces. The en-suite bathroom is superbly fitted with Portuguese pink-rose marble.
The villa is furnished with taste and in a manner befitting its high quality.
All windows in the Villa are of gold anodised aluminium manufactured by Technal.
The electricity supply to the Estate is supplied by the local electricity company.
The Estate is water sufficient with its own supply from two deep wells of 110 metres, and 145 metres. These wells produce ample water for domestic use, for the swimming pool, and watering system for the gardens.
There is a separate two bedroom Villa on the estate for the Resident Caretaker, comprising living room, two bedrooms, one bathroom, two terraces, double garage, and large workshop.
