THE AREA

Souri is a small village set in a scenic landscape and is only a few km from several great beaches. The surrounding area is also well worth exploring.

Less than 2 kilometres from Souri Resort is the little village of Litsarda – with a cafe and pizzeria/taverna. Go a little further down the road, and you will find the town of Vamos with excellent amenities (tavernas, cafes, bars, supermarkets, bakery, bank / cash machine etc.). Vamos also offers cultural events such as sports, music events all year round – in calm surroundings with friendly people.

If you want a beach resort, you will like nearby Georgioupolis, a small fisherman’s village with a large village square with tavernas and cafes and many types of shops. Georgioupolis is especially known for its rich bird and animal life as well as the sandy beach and great bathing – along with a large public swimming pool.

Whether you are looking for a nice dinner in a taverna, or a cup of strong Greek coffee in a square cafe, then Georgioupolis is definitely the place to visit The river running through the town from Lake Kournas to the sea is also a great place to see lots of wild life – including turtles

If the thought of a large town with culture and history appeals to you, you ought to visit Chania, the main city of West Crete, which is a relatively short drive from the resort. In Chania you really experience the vibrant nature of the city in the new quarter with shops, offices, banks, etc. The old quarter of the city around the Venetian harbour has a wonderful atmosphere with its many old buildings and narrow streets. Having lunch sat outside one of the many tavernas on the harbour is an experience you won’t forget.
