Description complète

We are very pleased to be able to offer this lovely restoration property in the village of Platsa. Dating back to the 1800's this house was restored in 2002 by local craftsmen and under the guidance of a well known english architect. As many of the original features have been retained or enhanced in this historical Mani house, which is reputed to have been possibly owned by the village priest in the past. From a very large upper balcony there are views west out over the village roofs and down to the sea, framed by the beautiful byzantine church of Platsa, and to the north and east out to the Taygetos mountins and the villages above. A 1 minute walk from the village central square, and the parking area, brings you to an arched gateway through which you step into a walled courtyard, very tastefully planted with mature trees and shrubs. Three nicely sized double bedrooms are situated on the ground floor, one of which is in a very nicely restored kamara, a shower and toilet room is also to be found at this level. The upper floor is reached via an internal staircase, or via a stoned external stair to the main entrance of the house. From here entry is into a large open plan lounge and dining area, heated by a wood fire in winter. The kitchen is at this level adjacent to the dining area, as is the second small shower/toilet room. The large upper balcony is accessed from the lounge, where we have seating areas, vine covered pergola for shade and some very impressive views of the sea, village and mountains behind. Many of the original features and materials from the former building have been retained. A lovely 'bee hive' style bread oven is the centre piece of the kitchen, original corner stones and timbers have been used wherever possible in the restoration works, and this has resulted in the rescue of what was and is again a beautiful example of a traditional Mani village house, modernised and very comfortable for year round living. Platsa is itself one of the more picturesque villages in the region, at an elevation where the views are great and temperatures a little cooler in the summer, with a lovely central square, kafenion in the corner and no through road, it really does feel like Greece.
