Description complète

Lovely spacious apartment with balcony, set in the centre of Bagno Vignoni, in Val d'Orcia, a wonderful spa village, where time slows down, close to the typically Tuscan town of San Quirico d' Orcia.

This village is different from others in the region. In traditional villages there is usually a main square as a central focus but here, in place of the square, is a central thermal pool (50m x 30m) from the bottom of which bubble up a number of hot springs whose therapeutic quality has been renowned for centuries. This historical property is set in the 'centro storico' of this exceptional, ancient spa village with beautiful cobbled lanes, coffee shops and elegant ambiance. It is possible to bathe in the therapeutic thermal waters of the village (though not in the central pool) free of charge. There are also three spa hotels which open to residents and non-residents.

The lovely apartment (100 sqm) is all on one level and comprises a spacious living room, well-equipped kitchen which holds a large table, two good double bedrooms, one smaller bedroom and two modern bathrooms. It is in very good condition and is full of historical detail. The place is light and airy with large windows and high ceilings. There is a lovely balcony from which to soak up the unique atmosphere and admire the view and the architecture. Central heating.

Nearby San Quirico d'Orcia was a very important stop in ancient times since it sat right along one of the pilgrimage routes, the Via Francigena, which connected northern Europe to Rome in medieval times. The town is divided in half by the main street, Via Dante Alighieri, with most of the fortified walls still standing. As you leave San Quirico toward Pienza, the surrounding countryside is stunning. This is picture perfect Tuscany: rolling hills, endless golden wheat fields, solitary lines of cypresses, and one of the most beautiful chapels in Tuscany, the Cappella of Vitaleta. The chapel is one of the main icons for the Val d'Orcia.

This region of southern Tuscany stretches across the province of Siena to the north and reaches Grosseto to the west. The area is protected as a natural and cultural park, and it is recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The impressive views of Val d'Orcia, which inspired so many Renaissance painters, is dotted with many little villages, castles, abbeys and hamlets, each telling a fascinating ancient history. This region is also rich in high quality local products such as the red wines of Brunello di Montalcino and the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, as well as the Rosso d'Orcia, "pecorino" cheese from Pienza (a Tuscan cheese made from sheep's milk), exceptional olive oil, saffron, wild mushrooms, chestnuts, truffles, game and many other specialties. The village is perfectly placed from which to explore some jewels of the region: Pienza, Montalcino and Montepulciano, and slightly further afield, Siena and Florence.

Distances: San Quirico d'Orcia 5km, Montalcino 18km, Montepulciano 20km, Siena 50km, Lake Trasimeno 50 km, Grosseto 75km, Perugia (airport) 100km, Florence 120km.
