Farming and agriculture are the main livelihoods for the people of La Sila. Local sausage, soppressate and pancetta are made from the meat of the local “Nero Calabrese,” a black pig, fed with acorns and chestnuts and you can sample these at the many local markets and stalls set up on the roadside.
It offers a contrast to beach holiday home and is only 45km drive to the west coast and the many marina locations along that coast including Paola, San Lucido, Longobardi & Amantea to name a few, where you can enjoy the crystal clear sea and beaches. You can also enjoy the healing qualities of the Thermal Springs of TERME LUIGIANE at Guardia Piemontese. There are areas of archaeological interest are within easy reach and the museum housing the Bronzes of Riace is at Reggio Calabria.
