A luxury Bodrum holiday home for hard-working Turkish-Geordies

For a hard-working couple of self-styled "Turkish-Geordies" from Gateshead, a holiday apartment in Bodrum provides some much needed R&R every few weeks.

Nuran and Ali Adiguzel are partners in life - and have two sons, 23 and 21 - and in work: they set up Istanbul Meats in 1994, one of the North East's leading manufacturers of doner kebabs.

Nuran, who settled in England with her parents as a child of three, says: "We both work very hard and used to take lovely summer holidays in nice hotels.

"But a few years ago we started to think about buying a holiday home, as an investment and for our retirement. We wanted somewhere we could fly to direct from Newcastle where we don't see much sun... and decided on Bodrum. We toured the little bays nearby and fell in love with Turkbuku."

Three years ago they bought a two-bed apartment there now worth €400,000 in Menengic, and a year later they bought a penthouse, now worth €680,000, which they rent out in a nearby complex, Cavea, from the same builder.

"We needed something that was ready to move into. We didn't have the time or the inclination to do up an old place, so the brand new apartment, two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, fully furnished with great decor, ticked all our boxes.

"Turqua (the developer) take care of cleaning and rentals for us, the pool and landscaping are gorgeous and it's a small and friendly complex with both locals and people from abroad.

"It's very chilled and tranquil even though the village centre is so near.

"There is something for everyone - certainly for Ali and me and our boys. Ali loves diving, we do boat trips, drive along the bays, and eat out at the beach restaurants. For shopping and entertainment Bodrum Town is brilliant and it's only 20 minutes by dolmus (local minibus)

Two-bed, two-bath 165m2 duplex apartments at Menengic cost from €335,000 and rentals per week in high season range from €3,750 €6,000 in high season.
