News from the first day of A Place in the Sun Live

A Place in the Sun Live kicked off in style yesterday with thousands of visitors joining us at the NEC to find their dream overseas home. Over 100 agents and developers selling property from all the popular destinations - and some more exotic ones too - met visitors who had arrived from the east and west midlands, with one couple even flying in from Perth in Western Australia to come and find their perfect European holiday home.

On the Main Stage the crowds were entertained with stories from Jonnie Irwin about his years of filming the A Place in the Sun TV show, ably helped along by comedy compere Ryan Phillpot. Later in the day Jonnie gave a presentation to a packed audience giving his top tips on buying properties in France, Spain, Italy and Florida.

PrimeLocation's Nigel Lewis also appeared on stage to share his favourite locations to buy a property abroad and visitors watched a Foreign & Commonwealth Office video about buying property in Spain.

Today Amanda Lamb will join Jonnie at the show, taking to the Main Stage where she will chat to Ryan about her years of helping house-hunters find their dream homes abroad and tomorrow the line-up is completed by the addition of Jasmine Harman who is flying in this evening from filming an episode of A Place in the Sun: Home or Away? in Malaga, Spain.

Liz Rowlinson, editor of A Place in the Sun magazine is chairing the Q&A-style sessions in the Buying Advice Seminar Theatre where she is joined by experts to discuss the process of buying property in Spain and Turkey, plus a session on maximising rental income on your overseas property and a session on emigrating, if you're considering leaving the UK for good.

Tickets are still available and can be bought on the door for £12 each. Children can come along for free.

See you there!
