Calling all house hunters! This is your once in a lifetime opportunity to have a great experience and find the home of your dreams. Yep, Jonnie, Jasmine and I are on the road again and desperately seeking some property-hunters. Of course we all love what we do, but it just couldn't happen without the vital ingredient - all of you who are searching for a place abroad.
So, if you are thinking of buying a place in the sun why not get in touch with us? You've absolutely nothing to lose. Ever dreamt about owning a traditional finca in Andalusia? Or maybe a villa within a whisker of the beach in Lanzarote, where you can while away balmy days all year round? Then there's Florida, which is currently full of really affordable properties...
Yes, you've guessed it, we're already living and breathing winter sun destinations - and I am sure you agree that a bit of escapism is a great tonic as the autumn nights close in. And I'll confess that although I now present lots of different programmes, A Place in the Sun, my first show, holds a very special place in my heart. I am so excited about the prospect of going back on the road and getting stuck in and helping people find their dream homes.
People often ask me how the whole filming process works and, believe me, it takes a lot longer than you think. It's certainly not a holiday with a bit of home-hunting thrown in! We shoot one episode in four to five days but the research starts a long time before that.
If you are chosen to appear on the show, we ask lots of questions to find out exactly what it is you are looking for so we can get a real feel of the type of person you are and the type of property that would suit you. Then the hard work really begins. It helps to know what you want (if of course you actually know what you want - many people think they do but then change tack!) and it also helps us enormously if you know exactly where you want to be. We then contact a variety of agents in your chosen area and start the property search in earnest.
One of the benefits of appearing on the show is the amount of research that is carried out on your behalf. It saves you lots of legwork and also saves you having to weed out the good agents from the bad on your own.
The director and AP (Assistant Producer) then fly out and start whittling down the properties to a select five or six. Then it's my turn to fly out to meet with them and look at all the properties. Essentially no stone is left unturned, as we scour the area to find the best agents and the best properties. Naturally we are in no way biased towards a particular property and won't try and persuade you to part with your hard-earned cash, so you're on to a winner!
Once you guys get there we have a very definite list drawn up and the filming begins. Each day is devoted to one house and one specific area. The filming usually takes about 8-10 hours a day and although it's tiring and hard work, it's a huge amount of fun too.
So what qualities do you need to possess to be a part of the show? Well first and foremost you obviously can't be camera-shy as the lens will be focused on you for a lot of the time. Jonnie, Jasmine and I will do our best to put you at ease but if you're the sort of person that hates having your picture taken this might not be for you.
You also need to possess a great deal of patience, as there is a lot of waiting around in the world of TV. My telly career might be summed up as "Hurry up and wait" as I seem to constantly be rushing to a location only to be told we then have to wait for agents/ lights/camera/airplanes - or even lawn mowers!
It helps as well if you have a really good idea of what it is exactly that you want and also that you are realistic about what your money will get you. Traditional or modern? New-build or resale? Those days of bagging a chateau in France for £4.50 are long gone. So if you think you have what it takes we would love to see you, and the details of how to apply are below. Who knows, this time next year you could be movie stars!
