Marrakech property market could be boosted by BA flights

British Airways (BA) decision to start flights from London to Marrakech, Morocco, in March next year, as part of planned network expansion, could boost demand for homes in Marrakech.

Already a highly popular tourist destination, a growing number of Brits have purchased homes in Morocco, including properties in Marrakech.

BA has identified Marrakech in Morocco as its top destination of 2011, in acknowledgement of the city's potential for growth in the tourism sector.

BA's ten top destinations are Marrakech, San Diego, New York, St Kitts & Nevis, Puerto Rico, Maldives, Japan, Las Vegas, Mauritius and St Lucia.

BA chief executive Willie Walsh said: "Tourism and leisure travel is a crucial focus for us, so growing our holidays business is a major part of our business plan.

"We've already made great progress thanks to the launch of our dynamic packaging capability on, which enables customers to book flights and hotels together and realise substantial savings. Revenue this year is up 55 per cent and there remains a huge opportunity for future growth."

BA reports that early response to the launch of the new route to Marrakech "has been incredible".
