Hollywood A-list couple Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones have added to their extensive property portfolio by purchasing a large house in New York for £3.13 million.

The Oscar-winning actors were previously renting the property in the leafy Westchester area of New York State. The country is also home to a range of other celebrities including Richard Gere and Ralph Lauren.

Douglas, aged 66, is expected to be spending much of his time in the house as he recovers from treatment for cancer. He recently completed his course of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

The recently renovated 6,300 square foot country home features five bedrooms, six bathrooms, a library, state-of-the-art gourmet kitchen, swimming pool, pond, a separate guest house and a three-car garage.

The 1930s property on Guard Hill Road, near the town of Bedford, is the couple's second property in New York, already owning a luxury apartment at the Kenilworth building on Central Park West.

Douglas and Zeta-Jones have a rather lavish and diverse property portfolio, which includes a property in Bermuda, property in Turks and Caicos, property in Mallorca, property in Los Angeles, and a home in Swansea, Wales.
