History teacher Kay and IT specialist Mark, who met while performing in political street theatre, have become increasingly disillusioned with the state of UK politics, and now want a change of political scenery. Having just married they're ready to set up home together, and are considering making cosmopolitan Edinburgh their home. However, they are also considering an even more radical change of postcode with a move to Valencia. While life among the orange groves may well appease their desire for change, will it be a change too much?
Home properties - Edinburgh
Voted Europe's best 'small' city by Foreign Direct Investment magazine, cosmopolitan Edinburgh has all of the ingredients to compete with the big boys. The birthplace of Sean Connery, Tony Blair, Alexander Graham Bell and the Harry Potter novels, the city is crammed full of history and culture as well as arts and film festivals, beautiful parks, strong eco credentials and world class restaurants and pubs - everything our couple could need, plus an open and accessible political system. The Scottish Parliament is made up of 129 Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) and is staffed by public servants not civil servants. They must remain politically neutral. The Scottish Government deals with devolved matters such as education, health, housing, environment and tourism. The parliament building, a beautiful work of art in its own right, is easy to gain access to, meaning that Kay and Mark can have a lot more of a say in how things are being run. But will the increased people power go to their heads and convince them that Edinburgh is the city for them?

Away properties - Valencia
Artistic Valencia is similar to Edinburgh in affording its residents excellent access to art and culture. There are plenty of galleries, festivals and local customs and traditions including a strong theatre movement which should appeal to our part time luvvies. The other plus that Valencia has going for it is, of course, the weather. Valencia has sunny days for 90% of the year (300 days a year). Certainly something that Edinburgh can boast.
Politically there is also plenty to get our couple's juices flowing. Currently Valencia is an autonomous region with the right to promote its own cultural identity, and the region has been working very closely with its neighbour - autonomous Catalunya- although it is not quite as extreme in its separatist tendencies. Valencia is the conservative stronghold of Spain, mainly due to its family-oriented culture and a strong drive to preserve cultural identity. The Conservative Party here enjoys an almost guaranteed win in all local elections, which sometimes heats up the local political climate when the central government of Spain is leftist. Will the couple be swayed by the revolutionary Spanish spirit?
