David and Celia want a holiday home which is going to bring their family together. Sadly, David suffers from a hereditary neurological disease which means that he is unable to walk long distances and relies on Celia for his care, which is why he thinks a holiday home in England would be the most practical option.
Celia has other plans and her heart is set on Lake Garda, where she and David honeymooned. And she has no problem with helping David around the world (the couple have holidayed in Alaska, Russia, New Zealand and Dubai since he has been in a wheelchair) But will the couple decide they'd be better off with a home they can get more use from?
Home properties - The Cotswolds
The Cotswolds, known as 'the heart of England' is famed for its gentle hills, sleepy villages and for being 'typically English' in style. Designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty, it is a popular spot with second home owners and tourists, attracting 38 million visits a year. In fact tourism is the area's number one industry and makes the Costwolds £130 million a year in revenue.
The region also has its own "Olimpicks”. Founded in 1612, events included welly wangling (throwing), shin-kicking, the sack race and climbing a slippery pole. Although the competition fell by the wayside for some years, it was reinstated in 1951 and – incredibly – has earned the sanction of the British Olympic Association. Most of the old disciplines are still included except for shin-kicking, which somehow was not seen as a worthwhile event. Property prices are over 30% higher than the UK average.

Away properties - Lake Garda
Favoured by Italians wanting second homes to use on weekends and in the summer, Lake Garda has a stable investment market with good capital appreciation and a red hot rental market. Tough building controls have ensured its longevity, with a maximum of two storey new builds, which are limited in any case, and local materials such as marble, stone and brick used in construction. Prices are extremely high as a result, but there are bargains to be had off the beaten track.
