A Place in the Sun: Home or Away? Cornwall or Angouleme, France

Bethan and Jason want to buy a family holiday home. Will they buy on the Devon/ Cornwall border or in the Angouleme region of France?

More about Bethan and Jason and their property search

Bethan and Jason feel the time is right to purchase their second home. Their three young girls are growing up fast and with Jason working tirelessly on his business, a property they could use for holidays would give him a great excuse to spend more time together without the need to book a package holiday every year. They want somewhere they can use for summer holidays as well as short weekend breaks, but will they get more use from a property in Devon or France?

Home properties - Devon

Devon, famed for its ales and ciders, clotted cream teas, cheddar cheese and freshly caught seafood, is situated in the South West of England, the largest English region in terms of area. The region has over 700 miles of coastland, and has been the setting for many costume dramas including Sense and Sensibility because of its rugged mix of coast and countryside. House prices have risen in the county recently, but are still below the national average in many areas, and have not suffered the same price fluctuations as other areas. As a result Bethan and Jason could find that they can pick up a bargain if they do their research.

Famed for being the home of Cognac, the Charente Maritime is the French department with the second highest hours of sunshine. Recently introduced as a Ryanair route, the region is now more accessible for holidaymakers, making it a great location for a second home. There is also plenty to keep the family entertained with beaches and Roman architecture to keep beach bums and culture vultures alike entertained.
